Student’s of Somerdale Park School are required to use the web browser version of Zoom. We do not allow the use of the Zoom software client due to the difficulties of managing the frequent updates the software client requires and our learners being remote.

Below are written instructions how to join Zoom from your browser. If you prefer a video demonstration, click here.

*Important Note Before Starting: You must use the Google Chrome Browser.

Step 1:

When you first arrive at the Zoom meeting landing page the Zoom client will automatically download. Ignore this. Unfortunantly Zoom hides the Zoom browser option so to unhide you need to select “download and run Zoom.” Again ignore the download. You will see the option for “join from your browser appear.” Select “join from your browser.”

Step 2:

Enter the meeting participants name, complete the “I’m not a robot” and click “Join.”

Step 3:

Now that you are in the meeting you will need to setup your audio and video. First select “Join Audio” in the lower left corner. Next click the blue button that says “Join Audio by Computer.” Then click “allow” when the request to access you microphone comes up.

Step 4:

If you want to allow video select “Start Video.” Like the microphone you will be prompted to allow access to the camera.


At this point you should now be in the Zoom session with ability to speak and be see on video.
